Game of Threads part 1: Daenerys "Stormborn" Targaryen
The Game of Thrones is one of the best fantasy-drama series on modern day television. The Game of Thrones is portrayed as a 'game' of political maneuvering, romance and betrayal. Nobody knows for certain who will win the Game of Thrones, but in the words of Cersei Lannister, "When you play the game of thrones, you win or you die". In the fight for the throne these royals are dressed to kill thanks to the lead costume designer Michele Clapton and hand embroidery expert Michele Carragher. Each costume they create has has significant details as if it came straight from a couture fashion house. In this multi-part series we will cover the best looks of the major players in the Game of Thrones.
Daenerys "Stormborn" Targaryen's wardrobe features the greatest versatility due to her wide range of travel that spans from Pentos to Dragonstone. Her character development from timidity to tenacity influenced her wardrobe as well.
At the beginning of the Game of Thrones Daenerys is hiding away from her enemies in Pentos with her abusive brother, Viserys. The first dress we see is a sheer blush pink of the shoulder dress.
Daenerys goes out to meet Khal Drogo she's wearing a gray silk dress with a metal detail on the shoulder straps.
When Daenerys becomes a khaleesi she wears a wrap dress with metal details
Daenerys joins the Dothraki caravan and she adopts a more casual style of dress with a textured leather shirt that ties in the back, riding pants layered with a tribal leather pixie hi-low skirt and riding boots.
After the death of Viserys and Khal Drogo Daenerys and the birth of her dragons, she embraces her dragon blood and her role as a leader of the Dothraki caravan. Her dresses gradually become more luxurious and detailed. In Qarth, she wears a teal caped maxi dress with a deep V with a gold filigree sash belt with two strands of beads extending from it. She wears multiple variations of the teal dress with gold detailing during her time in Qarth.
As Daenerys transitions into her role as "Breaker of Chains" she wears more caped dresses and pleated skirts. This Targaryen's wardrobe color palette mainly consists of off whites, whites and blues.
Once Daenerys successfully conquers the cities around Dragon's Bay (formerly known as Slaver's Bay), she travels with her Dothraki and Unsullied armies to her birthplace Dragonstone. She trades in her light colored flowing silks for black stiff leathers as she prepares to conquer the seven kingdoms.
